You be the Judge

Ligchine International introduced the World’s first “Compact Boom Screed” in 2008 and it remains the only compact boom screed available to the market.  Somero® offers a wide variety of “Drive-in” compact screeds including the Copperhead®, S-485, S-840 and S-940. When it comes to slab on grade placement the ScreedSaver II offers many advantages over Somero’s® fleet of Drive-in machines including efficiency, accuracy and price.

Compact sized screeds are commonly used on smaller, very cut up job sites and spaces. The ScreedSaver II™ is an extremely efficient machine due to its “zero turn” drive capability.

Screed head design is critical to accuracy. Somero® drive-in screeds have screed heads ranging in size from 6’ (1.8m) to 10’ (3.05m); some include an auger; none include a paver/roller; all have floating finish blades. ScreedSaver II™ has a standard 10’6” (3.2m) screed head with a double flight steel auger and a 1,000 lb. (453kg) down pressure screed head with an extruded non-floating finish blade. Ligchine™ also offers you an interchangeable “paver/roller” head that is perfect for paving applications, pervious concrete and world class FF/FL numbers that only a boom operated machine can achieve.

In addition to the many features and advantages offered with a ScreedSaver II, the best news is that the ScreedSaver II is priced below Somero’s® S-485, S-840 and S-940 screeds. Furthermore, Ligchine will never recommend the additional purchase cost of a pre-rake machine to assist our already powerful ScreedSaver II™ machine.

Ligchine International™ chooses not to manufacture Drive-in screeds for the following reasons:

  • Boom machine placement rates are much faster
  • Boom machines FF / FL numbers are superior to a constantly moving drive-in machine
  • Boom machines easily handle low slump (high quality) mix with their power (start finishing earlier)
  • Booms’ screed head down pressure means better consolidation than Drive-in screed’s floating heads
  • Drive-in screeds displace aggregate with tire tracks/foot traffic and backfill with crème
  • Drive-in screeds can cause issues for polished concrete due to crème filled tracks
  • Drive-in screeds can collapse wire mesh, rebar & towers and you can’t see or repair the damage
  • Booms stay out of the mud meaning less clean-up time, reduced maintenance & fewer repairs
