Acme Rod Care Crucial to the Screed Head Post

This blog post covers best practices and maintenance for acme rod care.

Best Practices and Maintenance for Acme Rod Care:

  1. Ensure Clean Threads: Keep the threads free of debris.
  2. Apply Lubrication: Use either traditional WD-40 or a dry lubricant on the threads.
  3. Check Lock Collar and Bearing: Confirm that the lock collar is tight and the bearing is functioning properly.
  4. Secure Lock Collar Bolts: Tighten the bolts for the lock collar securely.
  5. Lock Pinch Bolts: Ensure the pinch bolts on the cradle are properly locked. As you lubricate the acme rod, move it in and out slowly to evenly apply the lubricant.
  6. Safety Precaution: Always lock the pinch bolts to prevent the head from falling. To avoid foot injuries, keep your feet away from the head while operating the acme rod.

Note: The Acme rod is featured in all SCREEDSAVER® models produced by Ligchine®, including the SCREEDSAVER SS2®, MAX®, BOSS®, PRO®, PRO PLUS®, MAX PLUS®, MAX PLUS E®, and ULTRA PLUS®.

Components and Features of the Screed Head Post:

The screed head is mounted on a pivoting center post, which is bolted to the front of the smallest boom section. The cylinder portion of the post is held in place by two pinch bolts that clamp securely when tightened. When these pinch bolts are loosened, the entire screed head assembly can pivot or be adjusted up and down using the acme rod. This bolt is connected to a screw mechanism that raises or lowers the screed head assembly as it is turned. Proper maintenance of the acme rod is essential for smooth operation.
