I’ve spent time on numerous job sites recently, and one thing is clear: fine grading can have a significant impact on a concrete pour.
Sometimes, after hours of striking off concrete, when the focus shifts to finishing, we seem to be waiting on one last truck because we were a couple of yards short, causing the stress of a cold joint. At other times, we finish a pour and have two more concrete trucks sitting with full loads. And the worst of times is when the pour gets pushed out entirely because the grade didn’t pass inspection at the last moment.
At Ligchine, we recognized the growing need for a more dynamic solution to fine grading. That’s why we developed the E-Z Grader attachment.
Rather than using GPS (Global Positioning System) for your final grade, we encourage the use of an LPS (Local Positioning System) or millimeter, and here’s why.
• GPS can give you precision, plus or minus a golf ball
• LPS gets you within plus or minus an eighth of an inch
That difference, over 30,000 sq. ft., could mean either:
✅ Hitting spec and saving on concrete
❌ Overpouring due to minor inconsistencies in subgrade.
❌ Ordering too much concrete.
In today’s industry, where precision, sustainability, and cost efficiency are paramount, tools like these can help both earthwork and concrete crews stay ahead.
Whether you’re a dirt contractor looking to secure a bid or a concrete contractor wanting to ensure your pour is spot-on, this technology brings real value.
